If only most teachers adopted this style of interaction with their own students.
ReplyDeleteAll the questions that he had are really helpeful to do before starting a presentation, or even for the teachers to start the class, also I think that it is natural thing that everyone is going to think about before faceing his audience.
ReplyDeleteLee seems to have a command over reading people, or at least that is what i got from this article. To walk into a room and be able to tell who is "in power" and ethnic alliances is amazing. I wish the article had expanded more on how this ties into his connecting with the audience.
ReplyDeleteTrying to observe audiences and the environment before a conversation, especially starting a class, is very necessary, but I think it is hard. I wish I could do it each time I make a conversation. I'm always scare of making eye contact with those people who I don't know well.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,

Jane
I think it is nutarel that every teacher when he/she come to class looks to every students'face to know if he/she ready to class or not. what about us it is very difficult to to stand up in front of the class to introduce himself or to make presentation or speech.I think lee is amazing to ask himself all the guestions and make connection between him and the students.Like you Jane and Carol.

ReplyDeletei think communication with the audience is the key in a good presentation. its important to observe before you start anything. i look forward to learn more "techniques" on how to connect with the audience.
ReplyDeleteI like his technique. Observing the audience is the only way to make you feel more comfortable to speak in front of them. I never think of this before. If we adapt this technique in our class for the speech assignment, it will be useful and helpful.
ReplyDeleteHolding audience's attention is very important when people give a good presentation or communicate with someone. Therefore,i like Lee's idea that ask questions himself to read audience's minds.I think it is helpful if we use his technique in the class.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, getting audience's attention is successful key in presentation. I agree with his article, but sometimes it's hard for me as well as most people. As he ask those participants to raise their hands, we need specific introduction which is enough to hook audiences'attention into our presentation. For that, we should prepare some anecdotes related to topic of the presentation, and also we have to organize our idea as well as we need eye contacting with audiences for keeping the attention.
ReplyDeleteThe three techniques that Lee Mun Wah talked about in his article are very useful. I think to choose a good start before a presentation is the most important because if the audienaces are not ready to start, you won't get reaction from them. To choose the audienaces can help you to understand the environment of the room. The three technques can help us to make a successful presentastion.
ReplyDeleteI understand Lee Mun Wah's teaching methods are effective when teachers teaching communication classes, but I doubt when teachers teaching engineering classes his methods are effective. I think students' attitudes and desire to learning are more important than what teachers have, even thought teachers' teaching attitudes are important too.
ReplyDeleteI think Lee’s strategy in his class will be very effective in interacting with his students. Especially in the U.S., there are diverse culture differences even in school since the U.S. is well-known as the cultural melting pot. Therefore, just calling students’ names or talking something to them in one way is not enough to understand and communicate with them in class. Understanding students’ cultures differences and personalities is needed to encourage them to participate in their classes actively, as he said, “Noticing who they are and helping them move towards who they can become.” For me, if a teacher tries to approach me in a class like Lee, I would like to participate in it more naturally and actively because I would feel more comfortable with the teacher’s careful treatment of me. In this sense, for effective communication, teaching, and learning in class, what kind of attitude and strategy a teacher has is as important as what kind of attitude a student has.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what reggie said more teachers should look upon this style of communication. I personaly feel that it would creat a closer bonding classroom atmosphear.
ReplyDeletewell,
ReplyDeleteThe writer is trying to convince the reader about being present form both sides (audienace, and presenters)As a result, The benefits will be really helpful, the presenter will give good presentaion, the aduienace will have good information
I think the way Lee Mun Wah first starts his speech presentation is so great to observe everyone and everything in his classroom. However, for me, if I use something from Lee Mun Wah for my speech presentation, I will use the second element is to make eye contact with each the participant and group because it creates the friendly and honest environment before all of participants get attention to yours speech ^_^ .
ReplyDeleteI think Lee Mun Wha knows the best way of communication. Best way of communication needs trust and respect. Mr Lee give some moment to Class. So class can think what happen is occured and who stand afront of them. And Mr Lee show them his honest with honestly question. It is frankly communicaton between Mr Lee and Class. And it also important thing which is Mr Lee think communication start is when he enter the class room insted starting talk.
ReplyDeleteI found Lee's method of cumminicatinng very intresting, and i feel he has developed a way to make comminicating safe and comfortable. I'am consedering using Lee's method of communication, to make me feel more safe and comfortable.
ReplyDeletesence everyone is still on Mr.Lee Men Wha I will have do agree that pase, attention and creativity play a key role in what people will see and hear not to mention remember or relate to. I can asure you that my time spent in your class has not been wasted and that you have my full atent! thank you , your student for life gretchen camp

ReplyDeleteI agree with what he wrote about it. Actually my personality is pretty shy... so that I can't contect with people. I usually wait until people ask me questions. Also, this element can use depends on what kind of class i take. Anyway i love to read about his writting.
ReplyDeleteI agree how important of grabbing audiences' attention, which first step of success on presenting. The beginning is the hardest part of everything, get up there, face in front of everyone, it's hard. A good start is very important, also what Lee Mun Wah talks about these three major present skills are very great tips.
